Spire Hospital, Manchester, United Kingdom
The newly built Spire Hospital on the Siemens UK campus is designed to make a key contribution towards reviving Manchester’s previous pioneering role in the fields of science, innovation and medical excellence. Very stringent sustainability criteria were applied to the new building, which was designed as an international hub and cost £65 million. Against the backdrop of minimising energy consumption and CO2 emissions, the architects went for roofs and walls covered in wild flowers, as well as solar panels and high-performance window construction. The insulbar® insulating bars used in the KAWNEER window systems stand out for their low thermal conduction capacity and thereby contribute to conservation of energy, as well as saving on heating and cooling costs.

House M, Grünwald near Munich, Germany
With its cubic shapes, the house stands out from the exclusive residences built in other styles in the south of Munich. The newly constructed building of natural grey stone is embedded in a steep slope and progresses in a staggered z-formation up the hillside. Staircases link the two storeys between the entry point at the level of the street and the residential level. The living area has large glass panes with a view of the patio and garden. When it comes to light direction, the architect has used highly-insulated window and sliding systems from Sky-Frame, which are equipped with insulbar insulating profiles.

Villa, Utrecht, the Netherlands
During the modification of the villa, the following two objectives have been achieved in an impressive manner: the task was to preserve the historic character of the house and simultaneously create a climate-neutral building. The sophisticated energy concept is based - among other things - on a heat pump, geothermal energy and ground and solar collectors. In addition, the historic wooden windows have in some cases been equipped with additional windows inside and given additional glazing externally. In the extension to the rear of the house, room-high window façades were used which free up the view of the garden. Sky-Frame window systems, equipped with insulbar insulating profiles, enable efficient thermal insulation and make their contribution to the overall concept of energy neutrality. The result is the first climate-neutral house in the Netherlands.

The floor-to-ceiling, frameless sliding windows from Sky-Frame in the mansion by the Ammersee lake do not simply provide an aesthetic quality. As well as enabling smooth transitions between the building and nature, they maximise the view of the Ammersee and additionally protect against burglary. When the sliding windows are open, the ground floor and patio plus pool merge into one. The manufacturer used insulbar insulating profiles for thermal separation in its design for the window and façade systems.

Red Apple, Sofia, Bulgaria
The award-winning design by the architects is based on the vision of constructing new flats in the style of New York lofts. The idea was to create a comfortable residential space out of an old, abandoned factory building. Since no disused factory was available, however, the architects had to give the new building an artificial patina. By using clinker bricks they created a new building with an old-style exterior. The Red Apple façade consists of Reynaers systems, with insulbar insulating profiles providing optimum thermal insulation.

Etopia Centre for Art and Technology, Saragossa, Spain
Etopia, the Centre for Art and Technology, was constructed on the former world exhibition site in the Spanish city of Sarragossa. The modular design consists of three blocks connected by means of a plinth. Etopia is part of the digital mile (La Milla Digital) and is directly linked via a suspension bridge to the station for the “Delicias” high-speed train. In its capacity as a meeting place, Etopia succeeds in combining what appear to be opposites: industry, research and creativity are united under one roof. This expressive building complex uses Reynaers window systems with insulbar insulating profiles for the thermal separation of the aluminium inner and outer shells.
